About The Club

Melbourne BSAC is a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) located in Melbourne Australia. Though members change, the club itself has been around some time and we celebrated our 30th anniversary in 2009.

Our Club is relatively small, but we are all active divers and the Club contains a bounty of Instructors, in fact about 50% of the group!   We are also fortunate enough to have a National Instructor on hand to advise, assist and generally drink beer with us.

Diving

The Club frequently dive in Port Philip Bay and out of the Heads.  Victoria offers a diverse range of diving and has something for everyone.  We are not affiliated with any one dive shop but dive with a number of charter companies around the bay and plan our own shore dives.  We try to organise at least one official Club dive per month, although we are always looking for more diving opportunities and anybody can arrange a trip and suddenly divers will appear.  Check out the links page for the operators we usually use.

During the summer months most of us switch to a semi-dry suit which should be fine from the beginning of November until Easter.  Outside of these months it can be a little chilly in the water and we would recommend a dry suit (although this is not essential).

Social

The Club meets once a month at The Maori Chief Hotel for a committee meeting followed by drinks, dinner & general chit chat for all members & anybody wanting to know more about The Club & diving in Victoria.

This web page is being 'refined' all dive logs and social logs are being done retrospectively from July 2009, This page, along with our group email, is supposed to function as a replacement for the forum so Club members and others can see what we are doing.  I have taken inspiration from Sydney BSAC I hope that's OK.
